The crossing between Andresito and Capanema is a small one, used mainly by local traffic, between the north of Argentina’s Misiones province and the Brazilian state of Paraná. It is not the border that Iguazú Falls visitors use, so there is less public information about how it works day to day. This guide sets out what to find out before choosing it. Hours and requirements should always be confirmed before you travel.
What to find out at a small crossing
Minor border posts do not always work like the big ones. Before planning the trip, ask the national migration authority of Argentina or of Brazil about:
- Operating hours. At small posts they tend to be more limited and may change with the season.
- Who may use it. Some crossings handle every kind of traveller; others have limits depending on nationality, the type of procedure or the vehicle.
- Road conditions. Ask about the approach roads on both sides, especially after rain.
The procedure
The order is the same as at any land border:
- Exit control of the country you are leaving.
- The crossing itself.
- Entry control of the other country: immigration and customs.
Each passenger shows their own valid travel document in good condition. Which document is accepted depends on nationality. Whoever drives carries the vehicle papers and insurance. If children are travelling, check the authorisations for minors first. Our guide to documents to enter Brazil sums up the general points.
Delays
At a quiet crossing the queue is usually short, but that is not a guarantee: a public holiday or long weekend changes the picture. If you arrive outside operating hours, you cannot cross until the post reopens.
When it makes sense
This crossing is useful when your starting point or destination is nearby: a farm, a small town or a lodge in the area. To go from Puerto Iguazú to Foz do Iguaçu or to the Brazilian side of the falls, the usual crossing is the Tancredo Neves Bridge.
And a private transfer
We do not take it for granted that the Andresito crossing is available to a service with a driver. Whether the route is available, and on what conditions, is confirmed at booking, and we do not promise a crossing time. Tell us your origin, destination and date, and we reply with the route that is possible.
