Puerto Iguazú to Asunción is a long road day, and nearly all of it is spent inside Paraguay. The shortest route passes through Brazil and Ciudad del Este, which puts two borders at the very start. Travellers book it to combine the falls with the Paraguayan capital, to visit family, or to catch a flight out of Asunción. Whether the route is available, and on what conditions, is confirmed when you book.
The road
The vehicle first crosses into Foz do Iguaçu over the Tancredo Neves Bridge and soon afterwards into Ciudad del Este over the Friendship Bridge. From there Ruta PY02 runs across Paraguay from east to west, through Caaguazú and Coronel Oviedo, to the capital. It is a toll road with a good deal of truck traffic.
There is another option, which stays in Argentina as far as Posadas and crosses to Encarnación. It has one border instead of two but is considerably longer. The route used for your trip is settled at booking.
What to consider
- Borders. Queues vary by day and season. We do not promise a crossing time, so an early start is sensible.
- Documents. Every passenger, minors included, needs a valid document accepted for entry to both Brazil and Paraguay. What is required depends on nationality; check with the migration authority of each country.
- Stops. On a long trip we stop on request for food or a rest. Tell us in advance if you want a particular stop.
- Flights. If you are flying from Silvio Pettirossi airport, do not plan this transfer for the same day without a very wide margin. Arriving the day before is the safer choice.
Vehicle and luggage
A sedan takes up to 3 passengers; on a journey this long a minivan gives more room even for fewer people. Larger groups travel in a van for 8 or in two vehicles together. The price is per vehicle and agreed before departure.
Other routes into the neighbouring country are listed under transfers to Paraguay.

Yes. Say so when you book and include the flight time.
Can I book the way back to Puerto Iguazú for another day?
Yes, we can quote a return trip. Send us both dates.
