Buenos Aires to Rosario: car, bus or plane

Team at LatamTransfer ·

Rosario is close enough to Buenos Aires for a same-day return, and that changes the sums: on this route the plane almost never wins. The city sits on the Paraná river in Santa Fe province, is one of the largest in Argentina, and draws business travellers, students, football fans and event crowds.

The four options

  • Car. You drive on the Buenos Aires – Rosario motorway, part of Ruta Nacional 9, with tolls. The road is flat and direct. The slowest part is usually getting out of or into Greater Buenos Aires at peak times.
  • Bus. Buses leave Retiro terminal very often throughout the day. This is what most solo travellers use. You arrive at the Rosario terminal and finish the trip by taxi or city bus.
  • Train. A passenger train runs from Retiro, with few departures and slower than the bus. It is economical and calm, and useful when its times match your plan.
  • Plane. Rosario has its own airport on the edge of the city, but direct flights from Buenos Aires do not always operate. Even when they do, the ride to the airport and the waiting make it hard to beat the motorway.

How to decide

Start with the clock. If you have a meeting, a medical appointment or a match at a fixed time, what matters is reaching the door on time and being able to leave when you finish. The bus and the train drop you at a terminal and depend on their own return times. A car, whether hired or with a driver, follows yours.

Then count heads. One person spends less on the bus. With three or four people, a vehicle shared by the group starts to compete.

Where a private transfer fits

On this route a private transfer is mostly used in three ways:

  1. A same-day return with waiting: the driver takes you, waits while you do what you came for and brings you back. Tell us how long you need in Rosario so we can quote it.
  2. Straight from Ezeiza or Aeroparque for people who land on an international flight and continue to Rosario without going through a bus terminal.
  3. Work teams or families who want to leave and arrive together, at a time they choose.

It is not the obvious choice if you travel alone, with no fixed schedule and only a backpack. The bus handles that case well.

Before you leave

Check current bus and train times with the operators and confirm whether any flights are running. If you are going to a big event, add a margin, because the roads into the city fill up.
