Most Antarctic expedition ships sail from Ushuaia, at the southern tip of Argentina, and nearly every passenger reaches it through Buenos Aires. That leaves three or four ground legs to line up before boarding. We arrange them as private transfers, one vehicle per party.
The legs of the journey
- Arrival in Buenos Aires. Long-haul flights land at Ezeiza. Your driver waits in arrivals with a name sign and follows the flight by its number.
- Changing airports. Flights to Ushuaia leave mostly from Aeroparque, on the other side of the city. Check which airport is on your ticket; if they differ, you need the Ezeiza – Aeroparque transfer or a night in the city between the two.
- Arrival in Ushuaia. A short ride from the airport to your hotel or the port.
- After the voyage. The same legs in reverse.
Leave a margin
A ship does not wait for a late flight, and weather in Tierra del Fuego delays flights more often than travellers expect. Many passengers plan to be in Ushuaia at least the day before sailing. Your cruise operator sets the actual requirement: follow their joining instructions, and send us the times they give you.
What we need from you
- Flight numbers for every leg.
- The joining time and place stated by your operator.
- The number of passengers and bags. Expedition clothing and camera gear take more boot space than ordinary holiday luggage.
- Your hotel in Buenos Aires and in Ushuaia, if you stay overnight.
What is outside our part
We provide the road transfers. Embarkation, luggage handling at the pier, boarding times and anything that happens on board belong to your cruise operator. In Ushuaia we arrange the service rather than run a local office, and availability for your date is confirmed with the quote.
Background on the season is in our guide to Antarctic cruises from Ushuaia.
Frequently asked questions
Can I land at Ezeiza and fly to Ushuaia the same day?
It depends on your flight times and on which airport the second flight uses. Leave a generous gap for immigration, baggage and city traffic, or stay a night in Buenos Aires.
Will the driver take us to the ship itself?
The driver takes you to the point your operator names for joining, as far as vehicles are allowed.
We are a group of ten. How does that work?
You travel in two vehicles that leave together. Our vehicles seat up to 8 passengers.
