For people in Formosa, Asunción is the nearest large city, closer than any Argentine provincial capital of similar size. The reasons for this trip are practical ones: an international flight, a clinic, a meeting, shopping or a family visit.
The way there
From the city of Formosa the route follows Ruta Nacional 11, an Argentine national highway, north to Clorinda. There it crosses to Puerto Falcón over the San Ignacio de Loyola bridge and continues on the Paraguayan side to Asunción. The road is flat and runs through open country with few services between towns. With children on board, bring water and something to eat.
There and back in a day
The distance allows many passengers to go and return on the same day. For that plan you can book the trip with waiting time or an hourly driver in Asunción: the driver drops you at each address and comes back at the agreed time. Bear in mind that you cross the border twice, and that the afternoon queue is not the same as the morning one.
What we need to know
- The pick-up address in Formosa and the address or addresses in Asunción.
- The number of passengers and suitcases, and whether any children need a seat.
- Any fixed time on the other side: a flight, a medical appointment, a meeting.
- Whether the trip is one way or with a return.
With that we confirm whether the route is available and on what conditions. General information on the border is in our guide to the Clorinda – Puerto Falcón crossing.
Documents and delays
Each passenger carries their own valid travel document. Which document is accepted depends on nationality and should be confirmed with each country’s migration authority. With minors, check the authorisation that applies. We do not promise a crossing time: on public holidays and long weekends the wait can be long.

Frequently asked questions
Can I catch a flight in Asunción leaving Formosa the same day?
Yes, that is a common use of this route. Give us the flight time and we plan the departure with a margin for the border and for Asunción traffic.
Can we stop on the way?
Yes, stops can be requested when booking or during the trip. There are few places to stop along the road, so it helps to plan them.
Which vehicle do you suggest for a family with suitcases?
A sedan is enough for up to 3 passengers. With more people or a lot of luggage, a minivan.
