Corrientes stands on the Paraná river with Paraguay just to the north, yet the drive to Asunción is not direct, because there is no road bridge to Paraguay near the city. The trip first crosses the Paraná into Chaco province and then follows Ruta Nacional 11 north to the border at Clorinda.

Two bridges in one trip

  • General Belgrano bridge. It links Corrientes with Resistencia and is the city’s only road exit to the west. It gets heavily loaded at commuting hours, so the departure time is chosen with it in mind.
  • San Ignacio de Loyola bridge. This is the international crossing between Clorinda and Puerto Falcón, near the end of the drive. The Argentine exit control and the Paraguayan entry control are here.

Between the two lies the long part: a flat road through Chaco and Formosa with few services. Stops can be requested when booking or on the way.

Who it suits

  • Families with children and suitcases, who avoid changing buses.
  • Passengers with a flight from Asunción airport.
  • Small groups travelling for work, a conference or an event.
  • Older passengers, for whom crossing on foot or changing vehicles is uncomfortable.

If you start in Resistencia, the route is the same without the first bridge: see Resistencia – Asunción.

Before you book

Whether the route is available, and on what conditions, is confirmed when you ask for a quote. Documents depend on each passenger’s nationality and should be checked with the migration authorities of Argentina and Paraguay. If minors travel without both parents, find out which authorisation they need. We do not promise a crossing time: on public holidays and long weekends the wait can be long.

Frequently asked questions

Is it not shorter to go through Posadas and Encarnación?

Not for Asunción: that way is considerably longer. It makes sense when your destination is in southern Paraguay.

Can you pick me up at Corrientes airport or bus terminal?

Yes. Send us the flight number or the arrival time of the bus and we agree on the meeting point.

Which vehicle should five people choose?

A minivan, which takes 6–7 passengers. If you have a lot of luggage, tell us so we can confirm it fits.
