Caviahue sits in the north-west of Neuquén province, at the foot of Copahue volcano, beside a lake ringed with araucaria trees. In winter it is a ski village; in the warmer months it is the base for the thermal baths of Copahue. Getting there means a long drive from Neuquén that ends in the Andes. We arrange it as a private door-to-door transfer; availability in the region is confirmed when booking.
The route
From Neuquén the road follows Ruta 22 to Zapala and Ruta 40 to Las Lajas, then climbs through Loncopué to Caviahue. It is paved all the way: open plateau first, mountain at the end. Zapala and Las Lajas are the natural places to stop.
Winter
Snowfall here is heavy and the wind strong, and snow chains may be required on the last section. Road conditions are checked before departure and the time is adapted to them. Keep warm clothes within reach, not at the bottom of a suitcase.
Spring to autumn
Many travellers are heading for Copahue, a thermal village a few kilometres above Caviahue. It operates only in the warm season, because snow covers it in winter. Confirm the opening dates with the baths before you book.
Planning the trip
The transfer takes the vehicle for the day, so book early, leave in the morning and request the return in the same booking. A sedan carries up to 3 passengers; a minivan or an 8-seat van suits groups and ski gear. Folded wheelchairs are carried if you tell us in advance. You can start from Neuquén Airport.
