The Jesuit missions of Trinidad and Jesús stand in southern Paraguay, north-east of Encarnación, and are a World Heritage site. From Posadas they are visited as a day trip with a driver: the car takes you there, waits at each site and brings you back, using the international bridge in both directions.
What you will see
- Trinidad. The more complete of the two: a main square, the great church, the houses of the indigenous residents and the workshops, with a good deal of carved stone. It is next to Ruta PY06.
- Jesús de Tavarangüé. A very large church that was never finished. It is reached by a side road a short drive from Trinidad.
Both are open-air sites with little shade, and you walk around them. Bring a hat, water and comfortable shoes. Each visitor buys the entrance ticket at the site; we do not sell tickets.
How the day runs
- An early start from Posadas, to cross the bridge before it gets busy.
- A visit to Trinidad at your own pace.
- A short drive to Jesús and the second visit.
- The return to Posadas, passing the controls again.
The driver’s waiting time is part of the service and is agreed at booking, as with an hourly driver. If you would like some time in Encarnación on the way back, say so beforehand.
The border, twice
You enter Paraguay and return to Argentina on the same day, and every passenger shows a document in both directions. Which document is accepted depends on nationality, so confirm it with each country’s migration authority. The afternoon queue on the way back can be longer than the morning one. We do not promise a crossing time, and the availability of the trip is confirmed at booking. The crossing is described on the Posadas – Encarnación page.

Yes. San Ignacio Miní is on the Argentine side, in Misiones, and is visited without any migration check.
Does the driver act as a guide?
No. The driver drives and waits. If you want a guided visit, ask at the entrance of each site.
Can children come?
Yes. Request child seats at booking and keep the sun and the walking in mind.
