Wanda is a small town in Misiones, south of Puerto Iguazú, where semi-precious stones are mined: amethyst, quartz crystal, agate and topaz, all formed inside basalt rock. The mines are open to visitors, and this is the usual half-day outing from Iguazú once you have seen the falls.
How the outing goes
Your driver collects you from the hotel, follows Ruta Nacional 12 south and drops you at the mine entrance. The tour is led by the mine’s own staff. You walk through the working areas and see the geodes still set in the rock face, and the visit ends at a shop selling stones and crafts. The driver waits outside and takes you back.
The entrance fee is paid at the mine and is not part of the transfer.
What to combine it with
- A free morning or afternoon. The drive there, the visit and the drive back fit easily into half a day.
- San Ignacio. The San Ignacio ruins are much further south on the same road; the two together make a full day.
- Your departure day. With an afternoon flight, you can travel with the suitcases in the boot and finish at Puerto Iguazú Airport. Give us the flight time so we can work out the margin.
Practical notes
You walk on earth and stone, sometimes damp, so trainers are better than sandals. After heavy rain the red soil sticks and stains light clothes. Service in Misiones is confirmed when booking; for groups there are minivans and vans.

Can we stop somewhere else on the way back?
Yes, if you mention it when asking for the quote. Stops are agreed before departure.
