The Campo Argentino de Polo in Palermo is where the Argentine Open is played every spring, a tournament that draws polo followers from many countries. Locals call the ground “the Cathedral”. Outside the polo season it also stages concerts and other sporting events.

What an Open day is like

The tournament runs towards the end of the year, over several weeks. Days are long: people arrive early, stay on the grounds after the last chukka and drift out slowly. That makes your return time hard to predict, so a driver by the hour or a flexible return, adjusted by message, usually works better than a fixed pick-up.

Finals bring far bigger crowds and heavy traffic on Avenida del Libertador.

Drop-off and meeting point

The ground is on Avenida del Libertador, opposite the Hipódromo. It has more than one entrance and your ticket shows which is yours, so pass that on to us. When attendance is high, the driver drops you on the most convenient side street, and the return meeting point is set a block or two away.

Concert nights

For a concert the ground behaves like a stadium: closed streets, everyone leaving at once and an overloaded mobile network. Agree the place and time before you go in.

Polo beyond the city

Visitors who come for the polo tend to stay in Palermo or Recoleta and add a visit to an estancia outside Buenos Aires. See the estancia day trip page.
