San Telmo is one of the oldest parts of Buenos Aires: narrow cobbled streets, old houses, antique shops, tango venues, and plenty of hostels, small hotels and apartments in period buildings. For a transfer, the detail that matters most is the day of the week, because the Sunday fair changes how traffic moves.
Sundays, when the fair is on
The fair takes over Calle Defensa and the streets around Plaza Dorrego, and several blocks are closed to vehicles during the day. If you arrive or leave on a Sunday:
- Give us the exact address so we can see whether it is inside the closed area.
- We agree a nearby corner outside the fair as the meeting point.
- Expect a short walk with your suitcases over cobblestones.
The rest of the week
Streets are one-way with little room to stop, so the driver messages you once at the door. Many old buildings have no lift: come down early if your luggage is heavy.
Ezeiza and Aeroparque from San Telmo
The motorway towards Ezeiza starts close to the neighbourhood, which makes leaving simple. Aeroparque is nearer in distance, but the route crosses the centre and takes longer at peak times.
Who travels
Backpackers and young couples, visitors who come for tango, and guests on long stays in apartments.

Frequently asked questions
Can the car reach the door on a Sunday?
It depends on the block. If it is inside the fair, we meet at the nearest corner open to traffic.
Which airport suits a stay in San Telmo?
The one your flight uses. Aeroparque is closer; for Ezeiza the motorway is quick to reach.
Does one large suitcase per person fit?
In a sedan, yes, for up to 3 passengers. With more luggage or more people, a minivan is the better choice.
