This is a small crossing: an international bridge over the San Antonio river between Comandante Andresito, in the north of Argentina’s Misiones province, and Capanema, in the south-west of the Brazilian state of Paraná. It is used mostly by local people, and there is hardly any regular transport across. A private transfer is therefore arranged case by case, and availability and conditions are confirmed at booking.

Who needs it

  • Local families and farmers with relatives, errands or work on the other side.
  • Travellers going from the Iguazú area to south-western Paraná who would rather avoid the Tancredo Neves bridge.
  • People who reach Andresito and continue into inland Brazil.

Before you fix a time

This crossing does not work like the large ones. Its opening hours are limited and may change, so the first step is to make sure it will be open when you plan to cross. We check this when we take the booking, and you should also ask the border authority. Our guide to the crossing explains what to look for.

Getting to Andresito

Andresito is a farming settlement surrounded by yerba mate plantations, right beside Iguazú National Park. The paved access leaves Ruta Nacional 12 along Ruta Provincial 19. Ruta Nacional 101, which runs through the park, is an earth road and can be closed after rain. From Puerto Iguazú the way is chosen according to road conditions on the day.

On the Brazilian side

The town of Capanema is not at the bridge: there is a stretch of road after the control. Send us the exact drop-off address so the trip can be planned.

Documents

Each passenger crosses with their own valid travel document. Requirements depend on nationality and must be checked with the migration authority of Argentina and of Brazil. Minors not travelling with both parents usually need an authorisation.

Frequently asked questions

Is it quicker than crossing at Puerto Iguazú?

Not always. The queue tends to be shorter, but the road is longer and the crossing keeps limited hours. It depends on where you are going.

Can you collect me in Puerto Iguazú?

Yes, the trip can be quoted from Puerto Iguazú or from its airport. Ask us about availability for your date.

Which vehicle should I choose?

A sedan for up to 3 passengers; with more people or a lot of luggage, a minivan or a van.
