Three towns in one

Bernardo de Irigoyen is in Misiones province, at the end of Ruta Nacional 14, and is the easternmost town of mainland Argentina. Across the line, Dionísio Cerqueira belongs to the state of Santa Catarina and Barracão to Paraná. Because the streets simply continue, give us the exact address and say which side it is on.

When a vehicle is worth it

• You arrive by long-distance bus on one side and your next bus leaves from the terminal on the other.
• You are travelling with suitcases, children, an elderly relative or a pet.
• Your hotel or meeting is not near the border post.
• You are a group and want to cross together.

People do cross on foot, and with only a backpack that is a reasonable choice.

Summer queues

A large share of Argentine cars from Misiones and the north-east heading for the beaches of Santa Catarina leave the country here. In January, February and on long weekends the queues grow a lot; the rest of the year traffic is steadier. We do not promise a crossing time. Documents

A dry border still has a control, and it is compulsory. Each passenger registers their exit and entry with a valid travel document. Which document is accepted depends on nationality, so check with the migration authority of both countries. If minors travel without both parents, read the guide to permits first.
