Cerro Catedral is Bariloche’s ski resort, with its base village, Villa Catedral, south-west of the town at the end of a paved access road. In season that road is busy and the car parks at the base fill up. A private transfer drops you at the base and collects you at the agreed time. Availability in the region is confirmed when booking.
How people use it
- Daily ski runs. Pick-up at your hotel in the morning, return from the base in the afternoon, quoted as two trips or as a vehicle at your disposal.
- Arrival with luggage. For guests staying in Villa Catedral, from the town or straight from Bariloche Airport.
- Summer hiking. The base is the trailhead for walks such as the path to Refugio Frey, and walkers often prefer not to leave a car there all day.
Timing
During the snow season, and above all in the July school holidays, traffic builds up on the way up early in the morning and on the way down when the lifts close. Leaving a little earlier and agreeing a clear meeting point for the return cuts the waiting. After snowfall, the state of the access road is checked before departure.
Where you start from
From hotels along Avenida Bustillo there is no need to go back through the town centre. From the airport the route crosses or skirts Bariloche, so it takes considerably longer.
Gear and vehicle
A sedan carries up to 3 passengers with little equipment. With ski bags, snowboards or a larger party, ask for a minivan or an 8-seat van and tell us how many long items there are.
