Foz do Iguaçu Airport (IGU) is on the Brazilian side of the falls, on the Rodovia das Cataratas, the road that runs from the city centre to the entrance of Iguaçu National Park. It lies outside the centre, part of the way to the falls. Most visitors need to answer two questions: how to reach a hotel in Foz, and how to get across to Puerto Iguazú in Argentina.
Three possible destinations
- Central Foz do Iguaçu. City hotels, shops and the urban bus terminal.
- Hotels and resorts along the Rodovia das Cataratas. Several are near the airport, on the way to the park.
- Puerto Iguazú, Argentina. Across the Tancredo Neves Bridge, with border formalities.
Some travellers carry on to Ciudad del Este in Paraguay over the Friendship Bridge, which is on the far side of the city.
Transport from the terminal
- Taxi. There is a rank at the terminal. Ask for an estimate before you set off. If you are going to Argentina, ask whether the taxi may cross and whether waiting at the border is included.
- Ride-hailing apps. They operate in Foz. For the Argentine side, agree with the driver beforehand that he will cross.
- City bus. A regular line runs along the Rodovia das Cataratas between the centre, the airport and the park. It is the lowest-cost option, slow with luggage, and it does not go to Argentina: you change in the centre.
- Hire car. Rental companies have desks at the terminal. Ask whether the car may leave Brazil.
- Private transfer. One vehicle for your group, a meeting in arrivals and a price agreed beforehand.
Crossing to Puerto Iguazú
This is an international border: exit control from Brazil, the bridge, then entry control into Argentina. There is no fixed crossing time. The queue depends on the day, the hour and the season. Each passenger shows their own valid travel document. Which document is accepted depends on nationality, so check with the official migration authority of each country before travelling. Children travelling without both parents usually need authorisation; check the rule that applies to you. The steps are described in our guide to the Tancredo Neves Bridge.
When the choice matters most
- With a flight home from IGU and a hotel in Argentina, leave a wide margin for the border.
- In July, in summer, at Easter and on Brazilian long weekends, both the road and the bridge are busier.
- With children or several suitcases, the bus stops being practical.
Where we come in
LatamTransfer is based in Buenos Aires. Whether a transfer from IGU is available, and the exact conditions of the crossing, are confirmed when you book. We do not promise a crossing time. If you land on the Argentine side instead, see the guide to Puerto Iguazú Airport.
