Chascomús is a quiet town in Buenos Aires province built beside a large lagoon. People from Buenos Aires go there at weekends to slow down: a waterfront promenade for walking and cycling, fishing, sailing, kayaking and long lunches. For a visitor it is an easy look at provincial life without going far from the capital.
What the trip is usually for
- A weekend away in a cabin, a small hotel or an estancia outside town.
- A day by the lagoon, there and back with the driver waiting.
- Fishing, mostly for pejerrey, a local silverside. Rods and tackle boxes go in the boot; tell us if you carry long cases or cool boxes.
- A lunch stop on the way to the Atlantic coast, since the town lies on the same road.
The road and the calendar
The route follows Autovía 2, the main road from Buenos Aires to the beach resorts. That decides the traffic. In summer and on long weekends it is heavy leaving the city at the start and heavy coming back at the end. On other days the drive is usually steady. Send us your dates and we suggest a departure time.
Day trip or overnight
For a day out, book a return with waiting, or a car with driver by the hour if you want to move around the lagoon and stop in several places. If you stay overnight, book two separate transfers and fix the return when you book the outward leg, especially on a holiday weekend.
Vehicle
A sedan takes up to 3 passengers, a minivan 6 or 7, and a van 8. Child seats are available on request.
