People go to Luján above all for its basilica, the main Catholic pilgrimage site in Argentina, which receives pilgrims and visitors all year round. The town is west of Buenos Aires, and the visit fits comfortably into a morning or an afternoon, with the driver waiting while you look around.

What there is to see

  • The Basilica of Our Lady of Luján, a neo-Gothic church whose twin towers can be seen from a distance.
  • The museum complex housed in the colonial buildings beside the square.
  • The bank of the Luján river and the grill restaurants nearby, where many visitors stay for lunch.

How to arrange it

The usual choice is a return trip with waiting: the driver drops you near the basilica and stays available until the agreed time. To add lunch in Carlos Keen, a small country village nearby whose restaurants open mainly at weekends, ask for a car with driver by the hour and we plan the whole outing.

Dates when everything changes

In early October a mass pilgrimage on foot sets out from Buenos Aires, and 8 December is another date that draws very large crowds. On those days roads are restricted and so is access to the centre of Luján. If your trip coincides, ask us first: another day or another time may suit you better.

Sundays and public holidays are the busiest days. On weekdays the visit is quieter.

Where the car drops you

At weekends the blocks around the basilica fill up or are closed to traffic. The driver drops you as close as possible and you agree a meeting point for the return. If someone in your party is elderly or has reduced mobility, tell us so we look for the shortest access.

Vehicle

A sedan for up to 3 passengers; a minivan for 6 or 7 and a van for 8, the usual choice for families and small parish groups.
