La Falda and La Cumbre are two towns in the Punilla valley, north of Villa Carlos Paz. La Falda is larger and more commercial; La Cumbre lies further north and higher up, and is quieter. Both are reached on Ruta Nacional 38, which runs the length of the valley.
What each town has
- La Falda: the old Eden Hotel, now visited as a museum, plus hotels, holiday homes and plenty of activity in season.
- La Cumbre: English-style houses, a golf course, small inns and the Cuchi Corral viewpoint, a launch site for paragliders.
What the road is like
As far as Carlos Paz you travel by motorway. After that the traditional road passes through the valley towns one after another, with traffic lights and local traffic, so the travel time varies a great deal from day to day.
In the second half of January the Cosquín folk festival loads the road, above all at night. There is also a mountain road that enters the valley near La Falda without passing Carlos Paz. The driver chooses the route according to traffic and weather.
Organising the transfer
- Give us the town and the exact address. Many inns and houses are outside the centre, on unpaved streets.
- Tell us if you arrive by air: we collect you at Córdoba airport and drive straight there.
- If you want to go to Cuchi Corral, say so. The access road is gravel and it is quoted with the waiting time.
To continue to the end of the valley, see Capilla del Monte.
