Cash in pesos, US dollars, cards and QR payments all circulate in Argentina, and not every driver takes all of them. For a booked transfer the payment method and the currency are settled in the quote, before the trip. For a taxi or a ride-hailing app the rules are different. This guide sorts out the picture and tells you what to ask.
How each service charges
- Taxi. The meter runs in pesos. Cash always works. Many taxis take cards or QR payments, but not all, so ask before you get in. Tolls are added to the fare.
- Ride-hailing apps. They charge the card saved in the app or allow cash, depending on the app. If your card was issued abroad, check that the app accepts it before the moment you need a ride.
- Remis or private transfer. The price is agreed beforehand. The payment method depends on the company and should be clear when you book.
Pesos, dollars and exchange rates
The legal currency is the Argentine peso. The US dollar is widely used as a reference and some services accept it, but nobody is obliged to, and the rate is set by whoever is being paid. Exchange rules, exchange rates and the rate applied to foreign cards have changed several times in recent years. Advice from an old blog post may be out of date. Check the current situation before you travel, and ask your bank which rate and which charges it applies. Cash machines set limits and fees for foreign cards.
How payment works for our transfers
Nothing is paid on the website. The price is per vehicle and agreed before the trip. Your quote states the payment method and the currency. If you need a particular method, say so when you ask for the quote and we answer before you confirm. We issue invoices for companies. The steps are on the how to book page, and motorway charges are covered in the guide to tolls.
Practical tips
- If you pay in cash, carry the exact amount or small notes. Change is not always available.
- Do not count on changing money the minute you land. Ezeiza has bank and exchange counters, but their hours vary.
- Keep the message with your quote. It records what was agreed.
- A tip is voluntary.
