Cruise ships calling at Buenos Aires use the Quinquela Martín Cruise Terminal in Puerto Nuevo, beside the Retiro district and a short drive from the centre. Do not let the short distance mislead you: the terminal sits inside a working cargo port, and there are several steps between your cabin and the street. Knowing them helps when you arrange a car or book a flight.
From ship to street
- The ship runs disembarkation by groups and time slots. Yours is announced the day before.
- Nobody walks between the quay and the terminal, because the way is full of containers, cranes and lorries. Port shuttle buses take passengers to the building.
- If your cruise ends here, you collect your suitcases in the terminal and, where required, pass a customs check.
- Only then do you reach the public area with the taxi and remis desk, the taxi rank and the meeting point for drivers.
How long all this takes depends on the size of the ship, your disembarkation group and how many ships are in port that day.
Ways to leave the terminal
- Official taxi or remis desk. It is inside the terminal and you arrange the ride there. With several ships in port the queue can be long.
- Taxis at the rank. They charge by the meter and suit short rides to central hotels.
- Ride-hailing apps. They work, but the pick-up point is outside the building and demand jumps when thousands of passengers come ashore together.
- The cruise line’s own excursion or transfer. Bought on board and done as a group.
- Private transfer. The driver waits at the terminal exit and takes you straight to your hotel, an airport or around the city.
The surroundings are port roads and motorway ramps. It is not an area to walk through with luggage, even if your hotel looks close on the map.
A day in port
If the ship leaves again the same evening, a driver by the hour lets you set your own route and be back at the terminal with time to spare. The all-aboard time is the ship’s, and it does not wait.
A flight on the same day
Aeroparque is close, along the riverside. Ezeiza is outside the city and the ride depends on traffic. You do not control the moment you actually reach the street, so ask on board for an early disembarkation slot and leave a generous margin before the flight.
Boarding in Buenos Aires
This season, check-in and luggage drop are not at the cruise terminal but at Costa Salguero, on the Costanera Norte, and the cruise line’s buses take passengers on to the ship. Your driver drops you there. The line sets the baggage drop-off time and the boarding deadline; the check-in point has changed between seasons, so confirm it with them.
Where we help
We run transfers for cruise passengers between the terminal, hotels and both airports, and on embarkation day we take you to Costa Salguero. Tell us the ship’s name and how many suitcases you have, since cruise luggage is usually more than on an ordinary trip.
