Buenos Aires gives you four ways to ride in a car with a driver, and none of them wins every time. A taxi is immediate, a remis has a fixed price, the apps show the cost on screen, and a private transfer is built around your flight and your group. The right choice depends on how many you are, what you carry, when you travel and how much uncertainty you can live with.
What each one is
- Taxi. Black with a yellow roof. You hail it in the street, take it at a rank or order it through an app. It runs on the meter, and the rate is higher at night.
- Remis. A car with no special livery, ordered from an agency or at a desk. The price is agreed before you set off. More in what a remis is.
- Ride-hailing apps. Uber, Cabify and DiDi. The price appears before you confirm and moves with demand: it goes up in rain, at peak hours and when a concert ends.
- Private transfer. Booked ahead at an agreed price per vehicle. The driver knows your flight, destination and luggage before setting out to meet you.
Six questions to compare them
- Do I know the price before I get in? Yes with a remis, an app or a private transfer. In a taxi you find out on arrival.
- Can I get one right now? Taxis and apps respond on the spot, except when demand is very high. A remis or a private transfer needs some notice.
- Will we all fit? A standard car takes up to four passengers, fewer with large suitcases. Groups need a minivan or two cars.
- Is there a child seat? In taxis and app cars, generally not. With a booked service you can ask for one.
- Will the driver understand me? Drivers usually speak only Spanish. In an app the destination is already entered; with a booked service everything is arranged beforehand by message.
- How do I pay? It varies by service and by driver. Ask before you get in and carry an alternative.
What to pick, case by case
- A short hop inside the city in daytime: taxi or app.
- Leaving a restaurant at night: an app, or a radio taxi called from the venue.
- A trip to the airport at a fixed time: a remis or a private transfer, booked the day before.
- Arriving off a long flight with family or a group: a private transfer.
- Several stops or a day of meetings: a driver by the hour saves ordering a different car each time.
What we offer and what we do not
LatamTransfer runs private transfers only: one vehicle for you or your group, with no other passengers. For a ride of five blocks a taxi is more practical, and we say so plainly. We are most useful for airport arrivals, groups, trips with children and long journeys.
