Colón is a small resort town on the Uruguay river in Entre Ríos province, with sandy river beaches, a waterfront promenade and a thermal complex. One practical point first: there is another Colón in Buenos Aires province, so say clearly when booking that you mean the one in Entre Ríos.
What people combine with Colón
Many visitors stay in town and explore from there. Without a car of your own, these outings need a vehicle:
- El Palmar National Park. Protected groves of native palms to the north, reached from Ruta 14.
- Palacio San José. The former residence of General Urquiza, now a museum, out in the countryside towards Concepción del Uruguay.
- Hot springs in nearby towns. San José and Villa Elisa have thermal complexes of their own.
If this interests you, ask for a driver by the day along with the transfer. Entrance tickets are paid by each passenger.
The drive from Buenos Aires
The route crosses the Zárate–Brazo Largo bridges and follows Ruta 14, a dual carriageway, to a short access road into town. It is a drive of several hours, so an early start leaves you the afternoon at your destination. There are no scheduled flights. Long-distance buses run from Retiro to the town terminal; a private transfer adds door-to-door travel and room for luggage.
When to go
In summer the beaches are the attraction, and they depend on the level of the river: when it is high, there is less sand. In the Argentine winter school holidays and on long weekends the hot springs take over. On those dates, book both directions together. A family travels comfortably in a minivan.

Frequently asked questions
Can we visit Colón and return the same day?
You can, but it leaves little time there for so much driving. Staying at least one night is the sensible plan.
Can the driver stop at El Palmar on the way?
Yes, it can be added as a stop on the way there or back. Tell us when booking, because it changes the length of the trip and the quote.
Will a family's beach gear fit?
Tell us how many people are travelling and what you are bringing, such as chairs, a cool box or a pushchair. We choose the vehicle from that.
