Driving from Buenos Aires to Florianópolis is the classic summer journey for many Argentine families, and one of the longest road trips people make in this part of the continent. With a driver it is organised in stages, door to door, with stops and nights on the way agreed in advance. Whether the route is available, and on what conditions, is confirmed at booking.
Who the road trip is for
A flight gets you there far sooner, and for a single traveller or a couple it is usually the logical choice. A private transfer is justified when several people share the price of the vehicle, when you carry luggage for a whole season, or when a pet is travelling. Tell us which part of the island
Most of the city is on Santa Catarina Island, joined to the mainland by bridges. Ending in the north, at Canasvieiras, Ingleses or Jurerê, is not the same as ending at Lagoa da Conceição or in the south. In summer, traffic on the island is slow. Send us the exact address of your accommodation.
The stages
- Buenos Aires to the border on Ruta Nacional 14. The crossing is at Paso de los Libres or Santo Tomé, depending on the date.
- Rio Grande do Sul, from west to east.
- North along the coast on the BR-101 highway, as far as the bridge onto the island.
Where you sleep is decided with the quote. We do not promise a crossing time: in January and February the border queues grow.
Documents, children and pets
Every passenger needs a valid travel document; which one is accepted depends on nationality and must be checked with the migration authority of both countries. For minors without both parents, read the guide to permits. If you bring an animal, tell us when booking and check the health requirements well ahead.

How many nights are spent on the way?
It depends on the pace you want and on who is travelling. With small children a gentler plan is wise; we work it out with you before confirming.
Does the same vehicle bring us back?
The return is quoted as a separate trip on the date you choose. Ask for it together with the outward trip to secure availability.
Can you take us only as far as the border?
Yes, for example Buenos Aires – Uruguaiana, if other transport is waiting on the far side.
