This is the Brazilian leg of the journey between the Argentine border and the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. The BR-290 highway crosses the state from west to east, through open pampa, and links Uruguaiana with Porto Alegre in one day on the road. The transfer can start in Uruguaiana or on the Argentine side, in Paso de los Libres. Its availability and conditions are confirmed at booking.

Who needs it

  • Passengers who reach Paso de los Libres or Uruguaiana by bus and do not want to depend on the next bus.
  • Argentine families heading for the coast or the hills of the Serra Gaúcha.
  • People with a flight leaving from Porto Alegre.
  • People working in freight and foreign trade at the border.

What the road is like

It is open country, with cattle and rice fields. BR-290 passes Alegrete, Rosário do Sul and São Gabriel; between towns there are long stretches with few services, so stops are planned. Nearly all of it is single carriageway with many trucks. Daylight driving is preferable.

Which side of the bridge you start from

If you leave from Uruguaiana, the whole trip is inside Brazil. If we collect you in Paso de los Libres, the international bridge comes first, with both countries’ controls and a wait that varies. We do not promise a crossing time. That part is described in Paso de los Libres – Uruguaiana.

Arriving

Tell us whether you are going to Salgado Filho airport, the bus terminal or an address in the city. If your final destination is elsewhere, it can be quoted directly: see Gramado and Canela or Torres and Capão da Canoa.

Documents

If the trip includes the crossing, every passenger needs a valid travel document. Which one is accepted depends on nationality and must be checked with the migration authority of Argentina and of Brazil.
